Hello Cutieners! Finally we can announce that the new battle system is here and now it’s officially implemented into the game. This is a major step towards a better and greater future for Blockchain Cuties adventure and battle mechanics. This is just a part that has been released now and in the upcoming weeks the battle system will involve “attributes”! This is going to bring extra layer of depth to the game.

Here are the patch notes for patch 1.12!

Overall Improvements

Battle system reworked
Our players are aware that the old battle system was purely random and very simple. Every cutie had power bonus, dice roll bonus and other bonuses (like drop chance bonus and exp bonus, but these did not really influence the battle result).

New battle system introduces critical hits and critical fails which are shown by improvised texts.

New battle system has brought changes to overall characteristics of pets, as starting from now every pet has attack bonus, defense bonus, luck bonus, evasion bonus and power bonus that can influence the outcome of the battle! It might seem very intimidating at first, but its not that hard to understand.

First major change is that there is no dice roll bonus that was capped at 20. Dice roll bonus instead have been made into attack and defense bonuses. Each corresponding to a separate phase during the battle.

Battles are now split into phases, players first face off the environment attack which decides if the cutie will receive a bonus or a de-buff.

Location attack now happens only once per battle!

Afterwards the round starts by one cutie attacking and the other one defending (a full round is considered when both involved pets have attacked and defended).

This is considered a mini-round. One cutie attacks, the other — defends. In this scenario we can see that Cutie 107 has done a critical attack (the green text represents this).

Winner of the round is decided by who has scored more points during the “mini rounds” (attack & defense phases). Before in the previous system the winner of the round was decided simply by the sum of the dices and bonuses that the cuties have.

Winner of the battle is the one who has won at least two rounds! In the new system it can happen that the cuties fight over several rounds as the mini-rounds end in a tie. This will ensure in the long run that the battles will be more “entertaining” to read through.

Battle reports are going to be reworked in the upcoming updates, as of right now they could be really confusing to the player.

THE MECHANICS

Cutie ATTACK Power = D20 + PWR + ATTACK
Cutie DEFENSE Power = D20 + PWR + DEFENSE

Power (PWR) — Power is a bonus which can’t be acquired by items. Overall power bonus is calculated from pets attributes, pet rarity, level and aristocracy.
Attack bonus — Attack is a bonus which is acquired by attributes and items. This bonus only gets applied to pets “attack” phase during the battle.
Defense bonus — Defense is a bonus which is acquired by attributes and items. This bonus only gets applied to pets “defense” phase and “location attack” phase.
Luck bonus — Luck is a bonus which works during the attack phase of the round. If a cutie triggers its luck bonus, then it gets to re-roll D20 and only the highest value is left.
Evasion bonus — Evasion is a bonus which works before the defense phase of the round. If a cutie triggers evasion, then it automatically evades the attack.

CRITICAL HITS AND FAILS
Dice roll 20
always equals to a critical hit (it means that player scores a point in the mini-round)
Dice roll 1 always equals to a fail (it means that player automatically receives 0 points in the mini-round)

Critical hits and fails are always followed by funny texts written specifically for each adventure type.

ROUND POINT SYSTEM
With the new battle mechanic a point system has been created to decide the winner of the battle. Points are acquired by successful defense and successful attacks.
Critical hit (dice roll 20)= 1 point
Critical miss (dice roll 1)= 0 points
Evasion = 1 point
If critical hit or miss or evasion hasn’t happened, then point is acquired by player who has higher battle power (dice + defense/attack + pwr).

ATTRIBUTES

Attributes will give an extra depth to the game

In the upcoming updates attributes will have a greater deal in deciding upon the cuties overall power and characteristics. In this update the only attributes that actually change something for the pet, are the ones responsible for the pet-kind.

Canidae — default 4% evasion
Canis — default 2 defence
Felis — default 4% luck
Ursa — default 2 attack
Reptile — default 1 attack, 1 defence

ITEM CHANGES
In order to make the new battle system work, some changes had to be done to the current items already found in-game. Previously items were giving power and dice roll bonuses, we have changed these bonuses to their equivalents. After some discussion on Telegram & Discord with the community we came to a consensus.
Example:
Dice Roll Bonus 1 = Attack bonus 1 & Defense bonus 1
Power bonus 1 = Attack bonus 1 & Defense bonus 1

This was done in order not to disrupt the economy and previous battle balance. Detailed changes of each item can be read down below.

Just want to clarify that the only time items are actually going to change in their statistics is now on this major battle system update. Moving forward — there won’t be any changes made — connected with items that are already found in the game.

  • Fixed an issue with items not changing the adventure cool-down when being equipped. Now they are going to work as intended — wearing an item with such an effect will apply effect similar to adventure potion once.
